DESCRIPTION:More and more of our dealings with people\, businesses\, even education now takes place online. With that in mind\, staying current with what’s new online\, especially for children and teens\, and the associated risks and safety guidance is of vital importance. \nResearch is showing that children and young people are spending increasing amounts of time online – the pandemic has only served to exacerbate this. It is impossible to talk about safeguarding today without talking about the digital/online aspect of that. Many of us still talk about online v offline but children and young people don’t – this is their world and we have to have some understanding of it if we are to help them to navigate it safely. In this post-lockdown period we are expecting many young people to disclose problems and challenges that they have faced in the past couple of months and schools and other professionals need to be ready to react and respond. \nKarl Hopwood\, an esafety expert who works with professionals and young people to promote digital literacy and safer online behaviours will present what’s new in online safety for adults working with young people to be aware of. She worked in the Local Education Authority safeguarding arena for many years\, first in Education Welfare services before becoming Child Protection co-ordinator and then Head of Health\, Safety & Wellbeing for the authority – combining also the roles of Senior Allegations Manager and Safer Recruitment lead officer – for a large local authority. \nAs a member of the Safer Recruitment Consortium (NSPCC\, Lucy Faithfull Foundation\, CAPE and NASS) Carolyn is responsible for updating and reviewing the national Safer Recruitment training. She is the only independent consultant invited to be a part of the Safer Recruitment Consortium and developed the updated Guidance for Safe Working Practice for education professionals which was published in May 2019 in consultation with the DfE. \nCarolyn is a member of the Association of Child Protection Professionals (AoCPP) and has an MA Professional Training & Development complemented by a Certificate in social work with children\, BEd (Hons) Professional Education\, NSPCC post-graduate Certificate of Competence and NEBOSH certificate in Occupational Health & Safety. She is currently the Chair of Trustees of a small early years provider\, having previously served for 18 years as a school governor\, and is also a trustee for the National Association for Special Educational Needs (nasen). \n  \n \nSpeaker: Bill Woodside\, Chief Operating Officer\, INEQE \nBill is a founding partner and Chief Operating Officer and Ineqe Group\, where he has specialised in the delivery of safeguarding training and consultancy. He is a former senior Police Officer with over 27 years policing experience\, both in the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and previously in the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC). Immediately prior to his retirement\, he was the Operational Command Unit Commander for Belfast Region and Deputy to the Assistant Chief Constable.
