This is where her passion for working with and supporting vulnerable young people began. In 2008\, and in response to increases in youth violence in Coventry\, she wrote and co-produced with young people “Get My Point” a piece of youth drama which successfully contributed to the reduction in weapon assisted crime. This work saw her presented with a Chief Constable’s Commendation. \nHowever\, it was Nikki became an Offender Manager working with some of the most prolific and complex young offenders that she identified that most\, if not all of children and young people known to the Criminal Justice System\, had a variety of vulnerabilities and unmet need. The recognition of the victim offender overlap resulted in a career change\, moving from policing into the field of substance misuse. \nAs the service manager of a young person’s substance misuse service in Warwickshire\, Nikki developed a number of pathways to improve service provision and support for children who were not actively misusing substances themselves\, but were nonetheless impacted by substance misuse due to having a parent or sibling with a substance dependency. This work was recognised by the Care Quality Commission as being innovative practice which should be replicated nationally. \nNikki went on to work for the Care Quality Commission in 2017 as a Children’s Services Inspector. In this role\, she contributed to and led a number of national reviews\, such as Children Looked After and Safeguarding (CLAS) reviews\, Joint Targeted Area Inspections (JTAI’s) and Local Area Special Educational Needs and Disability Inspections (LA SENDs). She also lent her expertise in the fields of Safeguarding and SEND to develop a number of thematic reviews such as the Control and Restraint in Children’s Home review which is awaiting publication. She remains a bank inspector for the commission. \nIn 2020 Nikki founded and launched Safer Together\, her own training and consultancy enterprise. Safer Together was commissioned in September by Coventry and Warwickshire CCG and Coventry Local Authority Public Health to lead on a Child Exploitation Project on their behalf. Safer Together recognises the challenges associated with navigating the current complexities of the safeguarding landscape and is on hand to support statutory and non-statutory organisations with any aspect of training and consultancy related to child safeguarding and SEND. \n \n  \nBook now

SUMMARY:Training: Ensuring best practice in safeguarding interventions
DESCRIPTION:Course outline \nIn safeguarding and child protection\, the provision of specific help or support to address a concern is commonly referred to as an intervention. Early intervention\, or early help\, is frequently referred to when a family or child needs support and is the recommended action rather than waiting for a situation to escalate. Timely support can be increasingly preventative and protective. \nSuccessful intervention needs careful monitoring and reporting and should be undertaken with the understanding that the intervention is temporary. There needs to be a recognised point where the intervention has been a success or a failure\, and another process undertaken. He also sits on Twitter’s trust and safety council where he represents the Insafe network. Karl has worked for a number of key players in the UK and abroad including CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre)\, BECTA (British Educational and Communications Technology Agency)\, the European Commission\, the UN and several Local Authorities within the UK and in Europe. Karl is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Marie Collins Foundation\, a charity which supports young people who have been sexually abused and exploited online and is also a trustee of Childnet International. \n  \nStacey Hart\, Managing Director\, Stacey Hart Therapy \nI am Stacey Hart\, a therapist\, trainer\, children’s author and group facilitator. I have been practising for over 20 years\, and I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) \nI provide therapy and counselling services. I am an expert on counselling for childhood bereavement and family breakdown. I am also a winner of the Family Law Award for Best Support Service which was for akidspace\, a counselling service for children who had experienced family breakdown. For the last 12 years I  managed all the training needs at one of the country’s leading bereavement charities. To do this she learned advanced nursing and basic medical skills in resuscitation\, all medical conditions\, and trauma. \nShe went on to teach these skills to student nurses\, qualified nurses and junior doctors as the Practice educator on intensive care. This role also involved lecturing regularly at South Bank University. She has been a DSL for Safeguarding at an independent boarding school where she was Lead Nurse. She is also an instructor for Qualsafe\, an awarding body approved by the HSE. \n  \n  \nRosie McManus\, Lead Nurse\, King’s College Canterbury \nTrained at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children Rosie came to school nursing in the independent sector 16 years ago. With a passion for boarding pastoral and health care Rosie has developed an interest in the understanding and development of the health needs of boarding school students. Passionate about the nurse’s role in the delivery of the PSHE curriculum\, Rosie is currently the Senior Nurse and Health Centre Manager for a large independent school in the South East\, she has a Masters in Medical Ethics and Law\, is a NUCO trainer and has a keen interest in the development of the school nurse role. \nRosie came to school nursing in the independent sector 16 years ago. With a passion for boarding pastoral and health care Rosie has developed an interest in the understanding and development of the health needs of boarding school students. He graduated in Maths and Computer Science from Glasgow and has an MEd from Manchester and a PGCE from Jordanhill College of Education. He has over 20 years experience as an ISI inspector of Educational Quality\, Boarding\, Regulatory Compliance and international schools under BSO. He also serves on COBIS Teams for school Accreditation reviews. He has presented at many conferences on the topic of wellbeing and how schools can apply positive psychology to help the overall community to flourish. Magnus is married to Gillian\, a modern linguist\, and has two daughters in their 20s\, Marianne and Jane both working in UK. He is a keen diver\, with over 500 dives worldwide\, enjoys golf\, cooking\, reading and football. \n  \nJohn Taylor\, Foundation Head of Boarding\, Mill Hill Foundation \nJohn J. Taylor read Classical Studies and English at the University of St Andrews before completing his PGCE. In 2016 he co-authored a review of the literature on organisational risk and protective factors for the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse as well as being Expert Witness in a Royal Commission Case Study. He is an Expert Witness for the IICSA (the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse) Residential Schools inquiry and co-authored the Farrer & CO low-level concerns guidance. \nAs an independent consultant Marcus regularly trains and presents based on his research and undertakes safeguarding work including audits and reviews for a number of organisations. Marcus is a past Editor in Chief and current Associate Editor of the Journal of Sexual Aggression and a past Chair of NOTA (the National Organisation for the Treatment of Abuse) and is now a NOTA Fellow. \n  \nSpeaker: Dale Wilkins\, Director of Safeguarding\, Sacpa\nDale Wilkins spent 31 years working in schools\, mainly in residential education\, of which eleven years were as safeguarding lead. DESCRIPTION:Anxiety\, and stress anxiety in particular\, is the most common form of mental ill health\, impacting children\, young people and adults irrespective of background or gender. Anxiety can manifest in a host of different ways for different people and despite its prevalence\, still has a degree of stigma around it.
