He is a member of UKCIS (UK Council for Internet Safety) and sits on the UKCIS evidence group\, education working group and the early warning group as well as on the advisory board for the UK Safer Internet Centre. He also sits on the Roblox trust and safety board where he represents the Insafe network. He was part of an expert steering group with TikTok looking at harmful and dangerous online challenges and regularly contributes to content for Internet Matters\, recently delivering their online safety training for those working with children in care commissioned by Ofcom. \nKarl has worked for a number of key players in the UK and abroad including CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre)\, BECTA (British Educational and Communications Technology Agency)\, the European Commission\, the UN and several Local Authorities within the UK and in Europe. \nAs an ex primary headteacher\, he continues to work closely in schools across Europe with children\, young people\, parents\, teachers and governors to develop safer online behaviours and the promotion of digital literacy. Karl has been employed for the last 19 years as an in-house consultant for INSAFE which is the coordinating node of the EU Better Internet for Kids programme where he is responsible for the coordination of safer internet helplines and awareness centres across Europe. Karl was the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Marie Collins Foundation for 7 years\, a charity which supports young people who have been sexually abused and exploited online and is now Chair of the board of trustees of Childnet international and Chair of the executive committee of SACPA (Safeguarding and Child Protection Association). Karl has also worked with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and chaired the working group to re-write their Child Online Protection Guidance.

With 15 years of experience as a digital marketer\, specialising in GDPR and compliance\, across professional services and local authorities\, she now helps schools develop effective management systems and robust safeguarding practices when representing themselves on social media through her business\, Harrison Media Solutions. \n  \n  \n\nDale Wilkins\, Executive Director\, Scotland/Wales and Accredited/Compliance \nDale joined the BSA during Summer 2017 with responsibility for safeguarding and standards. He holds extensive experience tackling a wide range of complex radicalisation cases in various roles\, including as a Social Worker within Children’s Services\, as Channel Coordinator within Prevent and as the Prevent Practitioner/Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional within an NHS mental health Trust. Furthermore\, Thomas is a PhD candidate in Social Work and Social Care investigating the radicalisation of young men and the role of masculinity in violent extremism. \nThomas is a qualified Social Worker with a background in Children’s services and holds years of experience in multi-agency safeguarding work. His work spans across safeguarding children and adults from a range of harms\, including domestic abuse\, sexual exploitation\, criminal exploitation\, county lines\, modern slavery and radicalisation. Thomas is passionate about supporting professionals to respond to safeguarding concerns\, and is using his PhD research to build a practical tool to support social workers to assess and safeguard males whom are vulnerable to radicalisation. \nIn his current role as Prevent Practitioner/Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT)\, Thomas provides regular trainings to staff and teams across the Trust\, including Prevent Awareness\, Workshop to Raise Awareness on Prevent (WRAP)\, and Safeguarding Adults. Thomas also offers regular expert consultations to support staff to respond to complex radicalisation concerns across the Trust\, and is the SPFT representative in the Prevent’s Channel Panels across Sussex that provide a multi-agency approach to safeguarding those assessed as vulnerable to radicalisation. Moreover\, Thomas contributes to the development and updating of Policy within SPFT to structurally respond to emerging safeguarding concerns regarding radicalisation. \nOver the years\, Thomas has gathered substantial knowledge and practical expertise on the multi-faceted dynamics of safeguarding and radicalisation. His unique position of both working in and researching on this issue provides unique insights into this complex area of safeguarding. Students will be encouraged to contribute ideas\, opinions and questions\, taking responsibility for their own learning\, whilst contributing to the learning of the group as a whole. \nThe course is run by senior members of the SACPA staff.  Each delegate will have an experienced SACPA Tutor who attends the study days. \nCourse Assessment \nDelegates may choose assessment via portfolio or assignment. \n\n \nDale Wilkins : Executive Director\, SACPA  \nDale Wilkins spent 31 years working in schools\, mainly in residential education\, of which eleven years were as safeguarding lead. He has also had safeguarding responsibilities in youth group\, sports and church settings\, was a multi-agency safeguarding trainer for Dudley Safeguarding Children Board and has completed an extensive “Train the Trainer” course with NSPCC. In September 2017 he took over safeguarding responsibilities at BSA\, and subsequently BSA Group and Sacpa. The last 14 years of his police service was in the Child Abuse Investigation Unit (CAIU). He is also qualified as the following: \n  \n  \n  \n\nFamily Liaison Officer (FLO)\nDisaster Victim Identification Officer (DVI)\nSignificant Witness interviewer (Sig Wit)\nEnhanced Cognitive Witness Interviewer\nDomestic Abuse Officer\nPIP Level 2 investigator\nAchieving Best Evidence (ABE- VRI vulnerable and intimidated witness interviewer)\nSpecialist Child Abuse Investigative Development Programme (SCAIDP)\nJoint Investigator – Section 47 Children Act ‘89\n\nPhilip was also seconded to the Training Department for 2 years\, where he received qualifications in training and delivered all these subjects\, including Harmful Sexual Behaviours (HSB). Philip is a qualified AIM3 Assessor of children displaying HSB. Philip also quality assured the Home Office Harmful Sexual Behaviours Support Service (HSBSS) where he oversaw and triaged all the requests for support and advised personally on all the complex cases. In this capacity\, she has led the development and launch of sexual misconduct support services within the Police\, NHS\, and has expanded LimeCulture’s work within universities. Alongside her team\, Maria has designed proactive prevention programs and clear\, effective response strategies to support victims and survivors of sexual violence\, harassment\, and abuse across all ages and settings. \nMaria has also played a key role in developing and delivering the Preventing Sexual Misconduct Education (PSME) and the Sexual Misconduct Liaison Officer (SMLO) Model\, helping schools and colleges implement a whole-school approach to prevention and response. She acts for a variety of not for profit and education organisations including independent schools\, charities\, faith-based organisations and sports clubs. Maria has many years’ experience in handling sensitive and complex cases for clients. She is a specialist in investigations and a trained interviewer. Maria advises on all aspects of employment and equality law and was the lead author of the AGBIS Resource for Governors on Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion. Most recently\, Maria has advised on a number of complex cases such as bullying cases (including anonymous witnesses)\, safeguarding investigations into serious allegations with related parental complaints; whistleblowing complaints\, ‘clash of rights’ cases\, and a range of other cases involving staff\, children and parents.
