SUMMARY:Webinar: County Lines - understanding risks and preparing for post-lockdown
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will introduce delegates to County Lines\, the illegal transport of drugs from one area to another\, crossing local authority boundaries. County Lines is a term used within the UK to describe where organised crime networks and gangs recruit or coerce children or vulnerable adults into trafficking drugs across boundaries and into different areas. Providing an update on what we know about County Lines activity\, delegates will be presented with information on how to identify possible County Lines dealing\, recognise signs that young people or vulnerable adults may be involved\, and what to do if you have concerns. \nIn the last year\, in line with lockdown\, we have seen a corresponding dip in County Lines activity during lockdown periods\, but a notable increase when ‘routine’ travel and movement resumes. While County Lines may have seemed to drop off the safeguarding agenda\, this is a short-sighted view\, and related risks associated with County Lines are not stopping even in lockdown. \n  \nAudience:\nThis webinar is suitable for anyone working with children and young people in a professional capacity. \n  \nTraining aims:  \n\nTo understand what County Lines is\, and what it covers\nHow young people and vulnerable adults can be coerced into trafficking illegal drugs\nRelated safeguarding risks\nCommon language associated with County Lines activity\nTo identify signs that County Lines may be occurring in your area\nTo identify signs that young people or vulnerable adults may have been coerced into County Lines activity.\n\n  \nCost: \n\nMember rate: £60\nNon-member rate: £120*\n\n \nWebinar host: Nikki Holmes\, Founder\, Safer Together \nAfter graduating with a degree in Criminology and Psychology\, Nikki’ began her career as a police officer with West Midlands Police where she enjoyed a variety of different roles. This is where her passion for working with and supporting vulnerable young people began. In 2008\, and in response to increases in youth violence in Coventry\, she wrote and co-produced with young people “Get My Point” a piece of youth drama which successfully contributed to the reduction in weapon assisted crime. This work saw her presented with a Chief Constable’s Commendation. \nHowever\, it was Nikki became an Offender Manager working with some of the most prolific and complex young offenders that she identified that most\, if not all of children and young people known to the Criminal Justice System\, had a variety of vulnerabilities and unmet need. The recognition of the victim offender overlap resulted in a career change\, moving from policing into the field of substance misuse. \nAs the service manager of a young person’s substance misuse service in Warwickshire\, Nikki developed a number of pathways to improve service provision and support for children who were not actively misusing substances themselves\, but were nonetheless impacted by substance misuse due to having a parent or sibling with a substance dependency. This work was recognised by the Care Quality Commission as being innovative practice which should be replicated nationally. \nNikki went on to work for the Care Quality Commission in 2017 as a Children’s Services Inspector. In this role\, she contributed to and led a number of national reviews\, such as Children Looked After and Safeguarding (CLAS) reviews\, Joint Targeted Area Inspections (JTAI’s) and Local Area Special Educational Needs and Disability Inspections (LA SENDs). She also lent her expertise in the fields of Safeguarding and SEND to develop a number of thematic reviews such as the Control and Restraint in Children’s Home review which is awaiting publication. She remains a bank inspector for the commission. \nIn 2020 Nikki founded and launched Safer Together\, her own training and consultancy enterprise. Safer Together was commissioned in September by Coventry and Warwickshire CCG and Coventry Local Authority Public Health to lead on a Child Exploitation Project on their behalf. Safer Together recognises the challenges associated with navigating the current complexities of the safeguarding landscape and is on hand to support statutory and non-statutory organisations with any aspect of training and consultancy related to child safeguarding and SEND. \n*If you would like to become a member and access discounted rates for Sacpa CPD and events\, please click here.\n \n  \nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Webinar sign up *I would like to take part in this webinarName *FirstLastEmail *Company (if applicable)I would like to: *Take part in the webinar livePlease send me a recordingPlease select oneAdditonal delegatesYesPlease tick if you would like to sign up additional delegatesDelegate 2 *FirstLastEmail *Delegate 3 *FirstLastEmail *For billing: Contact email for your organisation's finance department *Finance department contact telephone number *Sacpa member? *YesNoIf yes\, please select membership type.\n\n\nIf you are not a Sacpa member\, please note that we will require payment to complete your booking for this event beforehand. SUMMARY:Webinar: What's new - Drugs and alcohol
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will take a look at drug and alcohol use among young people\, highlighting current trends in substances and how they are being used. Among the topics covered will be substances themselves\, but also the multitude of associated risk factors and the reasons why young people might choose to use drugs and/or alcohol. Delegates will leave the session feeling more up to date on this hugely important area\, as well as more confident to support their students and to know where to go for relevant information and sensible advice and support. \nRisky behaviours can present safeguarding concerns for individual students\, as well as for wider student groups and often the school community as a whole. Vulnerable students can be at higher risk of drug and alcohol use which can increase their vulnerability even further. SUMMARY:Webinar: there's more to saying 'NO' - refusal strategies
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will explore the complex dynamics at work in decision-making during adolescence\, what motivates students to say yes\, and what sometimes impedes their ability to say no when they want or need to. We will consider the important changes taking place in the adolescent brain\, including in relation to risk\, reward and executive functions. We will also look at the role of peer influence in decision making in adolescence\, and the relationship between mental illness and risky behaviour. Delegates will be able to take away some practical strategies their students can use to manage decision making situations safely\, build their resilience and become positive peer influences within their school community. \nRisky behaviours can present safeguarding concerns for individual students\, as well as for wider student groups and often the school community as a whole. With that in mind\, staying current with what’s new online\, especially for children and teens\, and the associated risks and safety guidance is of vital importance. \nResearch is showing that children and young people are spending increasing amounts of time online – the pandemic has only served to exacerbate this. It is impossible to talk about safeguarding today without talking about the digital/online aspect of that. SUMMARY:Webinar: Coronavirus - impact on children and young people in BAME communities
DESCRIPTION:At the start of May 2020\, the NHS released their call to action to support BAME NHS people and communities during and beyond COVID-19. While it may not yet be clear why the danger of contracting COVID-19 and subsequent mortality rates are higher for BAME colleagues\, it should be clear that a bespoke health and wellbeing offer for BAME staff should be developed and rolled out not just within the NHS\, but also across the child care and education system as we start to encourage more of the population back into face to face contact. \nIn this webinar\, we will be exploring what does this mean for you in practice supporting BAME staff\, children and their families. Many Sacpa members deal with international and BAME students and we have a duty of care to ensure we understand how Coronavirus impacts on them from a cultural perspective and how it impacts on their well-being. \nCost: \n\nMember rate: £50\nNon-member rate: £100*\n\n*If you would like to become a member and access discounted rates for Sacpa CPD and events\, please click here.\n  \n \n \nWebinar host: Ann Marie Christian\, Child 1st Consultancy \nAnn Marie helps schools\, organisations\, charities\, churches and childcare settings in understanding their statutory duty and responsibility in keeping children safe. \nShe set up Child 1st Consultancy Limited in 2010 after working for the local authority in front line child protection since 1996.
