SUMMARY:SACPA/BSA – Working with Affluent Families: when neglect becomes a concern
DESCRIPTION:🏷️ £135-270\n🎧 Trustees\, Governors\, and Leaders with oversight of safeguarding. Colleagues in education\, social care\, youth services\, early help\, charity and third sector organisations with an interest and responsibility for safeguarding.\n📍 Online \nCourse outline: \nThe phrase ‘affluent neglect’ presents something of a perceived oxymoron. If there is affluence\, how can there also be neglect? \nSadly\, affluent neglect is a real issue and concern\, and can be particularly challenging to identify and manage where signs and indicators may look different to those in under-resourced families. \nThe power relations between safeguarding practitioners and parents can provide an additional layer of complexity where there is resistance to intervention and support\, and the signs of neglect can often be emotional/mental rather than physical. \nThis interactive seminar that also involves delegates in group work and reflective practice draws on messages from research and practical application to explore affluent neglect and working with affluent parents. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nWhat is affluent neglect?\nIdentification and support\nUnderstanding and working with the power relations between safeguarding practitioner and affluent parents/carers\nCase study example for group-work and reflective practice.\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nDevelop an increased understanding of what affluent neglect is\, and how to spot it\nConsider strategies to provide support\nUnpick the power relations between safeguarding practitioner and affluent parents that potentially impact safeguarding effective safeguarding practice\nReview the practical application of identification\, and implementation of strategies for managing affluent neglect through case study review.\n\nBOOK NOW \n*If you would like to become a member and access discounted rates for Sacpa CPD and events\, please click here. \n\nSpeakers: \n\nTom Hadcroft\, Deputy School Director\, Aiglon College \nTom Hadcroft is currently serving as a Deputy School Director at Aiglon College in Switzerland (since April 2025). SUMMARY:Radicalisation and early identification: hidden influences on children\, young people and vulnerable adults
DESCRIPTION:🏷️ From £90\n🎧 Children and adult safeguarding practitioners and leads in all organisations and sectors\n📍 Online\n🎥 Join live \n\nCourse outline: \nThis webinar explores the process of radicalisation and the factors that can influence why extremist messaging may resonate with some individuals. It will distinguish between radical beliefs\, extremism and violent extremism\, while emphasising that radicalisation is not a universal or linear process. Her research experience and insights were shaped while working at institutions Georgetown University\, Universidad Pontificia Comillas (Madrid)\, the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies and UNICEF Spain. She also gained first-hand experience in understanding conflicts\, forced migrations\, organized crime\, security\, and peacebuilding while in Latin America and Africa\, where she provided psychosocial support to internally displaced populations and other victims of extremism and violence in post- conflict settings. She has designed and led nine projects funded by the United States government and other international bodies aimed at rehabilitating and reintegrating individuals involved in extremist groups (including foreign fighters) across the globe\, including the U.S.\, South and Central Asia\, the Middle East\, and the Balkan region. Only in the U.S.\, she has engaged with over 100 individuals in different stages of the radicalization process and worked with almost 70 individuals incarcerated for terrorism-related offenses. Her hands-on experience has provided her with a deep understanding of radicalization processes and how recruitment mechanisms have evolved over the past years. Her publications include academic journals\, written submissions to different government bodies\, and government reports. She is also a frequent speaker at events organised by different multilateral platforms. \n\n
