SUMMARY:Managing affluent neglect
DESCRIPTION:  \nCourse outline: \nThe phrase “affluent neglect” presents something of a perceived oxymoron. If there is affluence\, how can there also be neglect? \nSadly\, affluent neglect is a real issue and concern\, and can be particularly challenging to identify and manage where signs and indicators may look different to those in under-resourced families. \nThe power relations between safeguarding practitioner and parents can provide an additional layer of complexity where there is resistance to intervention and support\, and the signs of neglect can often be emotional/mental rather than physical. \nThis interactive seminar that also involves delegates in group work and reflective practice draws on messages from research and practical application to explore affluent neglect and working with affluent parents. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nWhat is affluent neglect?\nIdentification and support\nUnderstanding and working with the power relations between safeguarding practitioner and affluent parents/carers\nCase study example for group-work and reflective practice\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nDevelop an increased understanding of what affluent neglect is\, and how to spot it\nConsider strategies to provide support\nUnpick the power relations between safeguarding practitioner and affluent parents that potentially impact safeguarding effective safeguarding practice\nReview the practical application of identification\, and implementation of strategies for managing affluent neglect through case study review.\n\nAudience: \n\nTrustees\, Governors\, and Leaders with oversight of safeguarding\nColleagues in education\, social care\, youth services\, early help\, charity and third sector organisations with an interest and responsibility for safeguarding\nAnyone looking to further develop their knowledge and understanding in this specific area of safeguarding\n\nVenue: Zoom (online) – Seminar \nCost: \n\nMember Rate: £110\nNon-member Rate: £220*\n\nBOOK NOW \n*If you would like to become a member and access discounted rates for Sacpa CPD and events\, please click here. \n\nSpeaker: \n \nRussell Davis\, DSL\, Colegio San Patricio Moraleja \nRussell Davis\, originally from California\, USA\, brings with him a background in Economics and secondary teaching. For the past two decades\, he has been fortunate to call Madrid\, Spain\, home\, where he has lived and taught. As a proud father of three wonderful children\, Russell’s passion for education and growth remains steadfast. \nCurrently serving as the head Safeguarding lead at a private primary school in Madrid\, Spain\, Russell places a special emphasis on ensuring the safety and well-being of students\, families\, and staff. His commitment to professional development led him to complete the SACPA Advanced certificate in Child Safeguarding Practice course last year\, solidifying his dedication to protecting and nurturing young learners. \nRussell is a firm believer in the power of lifelong learning and is eager to share his passion with his students. He eagerly anticipates participating in the Managing Neglect seminar\, where he hopes to contribute insights to better understand and address neglect within educational communities.
