Webinar: Addressing low-level concerns

Presented by Katie Fudakowski and Jane Foster from Farrer & Co, this webinar will introduce ground-breaking guidance on low-level concerns, produced by Farrer & Co’s Safeguarding Unit in collaboration with external experts Marcus Erooga and Hugh Davies QC. Establishing an organisational culture where all staff understand acceptable behaviour standards and can share low-level concerns which are addressed appropriately is an essential part of good safeguarding practice.

Speaker: Katie Fudakowski, Partner, Farrer & Co

Katie is a practising barrister with a decade of litigation experience in employment and safeguarding law built up while a tenant of Old Square Chambers.  Katie advises her school and education business clients on all issues involving pupils, parents and staff. On the employment side, Katie has successfully represented schools facing serious allegations of whistleblowing detriment and discrimination as well as ordinary unfair or constructive dismissal claims. She can advise clients on how to stay out of the employment tribunal through adopting rigorous and fair grievance, capability and disciplinary procedures. In pure education law, Katie has expertise in relation to exclusions and special educational needs and also covers the contractual side of education, advising on parental complaints and breach of contract claims. Katie has considerable expertise in safeguarding crisis management, whether involving non recent allegations or live cases, Katie guides her clients through the internal investigation and disciplinary proceedings and the regulatory reporting to the statutory agencies, the charity commission, the Disclosure and Barring Service and the Teaching Regulatory Authority.

 

Co-presenter: Jane Foster, Consultant, Farrer & Co

Jane works with the Safeguarding Unit at Farrer & Co to provide specialist advice on safeguarding and child protection. She specialises in managing allegations and promoting safe organisational culture and safeguarding in the workplace. Jane has dedicated her working life to keeping children and vulnerable adults safe. Since joining Farrer & Co she has provided high-level safeguarding advice and training to clients including religious and sports organisations, schools, charities and private clients.

Prior to joining Farrer & Co, Jane was the Tri Borough (Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and City of Westminster) Safe Organisations Manager and Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) for almost eight years. She was also co-coordinator of the Pan-London LADO network. During this time she played a key role in keeping many of London’s children safe, and is a well-known figure to many private, public and third sector organisations working with children, including state, independent and international schools.
Jane has considerable experience in delivering training to professionals working with children, having designed and delivered safeguarding training for local children safeguarding boards in both England and Wales. She is also an accredited Safer Recruitment trainer. Audiences value her as an experienced communicator and a confident presenter, whether speaking to executive-level multi-agency groups, voluntary organisations, or young people.
